Young Members of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Graduate Education Foundation Sign Agreement to Enhance Podiatric Education with New Grand Rounds-Online CME Series

DATELINE / (October 6, 2005) – Graduate Education Foundation, Inc. (GEF), a non-profit dedicated to improving medical education and patient outcomes, today announced an affiliation agreement with The Young Members Program of the American Podiatric Medical Association (YMP/AMPA).

Michael S. Feldman, M.D., F.A.C.C., Founder and Chairman of GEF as well as a practicing cardiologist and professor of medicine, said the YMP/AMPA is an outstanding organization with a long history of supporting the latest advancements in podiatric education. He said, "They are the kind of organization we envisioned affiliating with when our faculty of medical educators developed www.CMElectures.org."

Harold Glickman, D.P.M., APMA said, "We are dedicated to providing podiatric students, residents and doctors entering clinical practice with the most comprehensive, readily accessible and convenient on line medical education programming available. This is why we have affiliated with GEF and www.CMElectures.org. It is exactly what our young members want and what they need to not only further their professional development but to use as a resource in their day to day practice of podiatry."

"Grand Rounds Online" provides podiatrists with an on-demand, broad-based and clinical CME series that for the first time brings to the podiatrist's computer the quality, content and educational benefit previously experienced only in a traditional grand-rounds hospital environment.

Developed by medical educators for doctors, www.CMElectures.org consists of more than 140 fully accredited, multi-media presentations covering the full spectrum of medical and surgical care. All clinical lectures are original, evidenced based, timely and relevant to daily practice

For a modest monthly subscription (less than the cost of many journal subscriptions), podiatrists on the front lines of American healthcare can easily enroll and have instant and unlimited access to world-class medical authorities as if they were accompanying them on hospital grand rounds.

Dr. David Yeager, YMP Chairman, noted that many podiatrists, including those that practice in rural areas may lack ready access to timely and relevant CME programming, can easily log in "on their own time and on their own terms". Unlike traditional CME courses offered in hotels and conference centers the GEF "classroom" can be anything from a meeting room to a living room, he added.

"Podiatric Medicine is changing so rapidly that it is difficult to keep up with current best practices," adds Joanne Gagnon, the Assistant Director of YMP. She further stated that, "Today's, podiatrists are embracing web-based technology and tailoring CME programs to help them make better informed decisions about patient care."

Unlike the majority of CME programs, the GEF series is completely independent of special interest funding, including support from pharmaceutical companies or medical device manufacturers. This was done to preserve the integrity of the content and the objectivity of the distinguished faculty.

The APMA is the premier professional organization representing the nation's Doctors of Podiatric Medicine. The organization is committed to advancing the profession of podiatric medicine for the benefit of its members and the public by ensuring the highest quality of foot and ankle care.
